BIRTHDAY in NYC and Gift Haul

Flowers from MOM!

On the morning of my 41st birthday I traveled to NYC with my mother and DB.  We enjoyed a late breakfast and met up with Camel and went to have manis and pedis.

After that we grabbed some red velvet cake from Cake Man Raven and then we checked out the pre-party scene at Karen's Body Beautiful.

Mom got me the Creamyliscious and Shampoo Bar in White Tea.

then it was onto my new favorite boutique in Brooklyn, Barking Brown where I got a few pairs of earrings.

After picking up my favorite lil girl, we had dinner at Sylvia's restaurant

After dinner we decided to head home where I was greated with cards and flowers that collected during the day.

I decided to open my gifts:

From LPL:
I've used the steak sauce twice already, definitely my new fav! Can't wait for my next BBQ. She also sent me the recipe for Prejean's corn and crab bisque and a bottle of my favorite leave-in/detangler KC Knot Today.

From DBuffet:
I've had the leather hair flower on my wish list for quite some time, its so pretty!  Giovanni Body Butter and purse size Lysol, this girl knows what I like.

From Camel:

Books from my Amazon wish list and I got Giovanni hair products with the TJMaxx gift card

From TK:
A frother for my lattes

Thanks to my friends and family for making my day special!

MY LAST RIDE

On my way to lunch today, I past a funeral procession on the highway and I began to think about my last ride.  Most of you know that I love to drive, I really like long scenic drives.  Its one of the things me and BTho have in common and love to do together.  I pray that the drive to my final resting place is a slow ride taking the scenic route on a cool yet sunny day like today.

FOR YOUR LISTENING PLEASURE

NO ONE HAS SWAGGA LIKE THESE FOUR GUYS!

Mother's back!!

I've been told that I've been slipping on this blog thing.  I've had a very busy two weeks, forgive me!  I was planning to sleep in this morning and lounge around all day and color my hair with henna and indigo but I was invited to lunch with LT and the fam. This is how it happens, I am so easily sidetracked.  I want to share the activities of my birthday weekend and my gift haul. So those posts will be coming today once I'm back from lunch and while I sit for 5 hours with henna in my hair cuz as you can see I need it badly.

So I'm off to lunch talk, ttyl!

My 40TH year in review - January, 2010 trip to DC by way of Alexandria, VA

Yea, I know technically I wasn't 40 at this point but my lis sis Nan, planned a trip to the DC/VA area for me over the MLK weekend.  We even planned to visit the White House, but at the last minute our tour fell through :(!

So after much preparation and packing, on Friday, January 15th we drove to Alexandria, VA where we would stay at the Wyndham Resort in Old Town Alexandria.

Once we were all checked in we were off to find our suite,

We entered into a lovely living/dining area and kitchen!

Of course, I went to check out the bedroom,

The bed look so much like home, I was relieved!  The bathroom appeared nice and tidy too,but I still wiped it down, lol!

After we rested up a bit, it was time for our dinner reservation at La Tasco, Alexandria

It's a tapas restaurant, so we ate and ate!!!

During dinner, there was a show with Flamenco dancers, very entertaining!

After dinner we took a walk around Old Town Alexandria and did a lil shopping, of course.

The next day, we took the metro into DC and had lunch at Ben's Chili Bowl

Nan waiting in line, it wasn't too bad but once inside it was insane!

I paid for the chili and half smoke I ate at Ben's, let's just say our plans for the evening were canceled.  I got really acquainted with the suite's bathroom.  It was worth it, the smoked sausage was unlike any that I've ever tasted.

It rained like cats and dogs the next day so we started off slowly with brunch at Art & Soul located in the Capital Hill area.

then we took a drive-by tour of some of the monuments

Back in our suite we spent our last night relaxing, catching up while sipping and snacking.  My lil sis, Nanny took such good care of me, ensuring that I had a relaxing and enjoyable time.  Thanks for a great kick off to a great year.  I can't wait to see what kind of fun she has in store for us next weekend in A.C.

THE PACKING HAS BEGUN!

I'll will be traveling to Atlantic City, New Jersey for my birthday! I love to travel but there are no words to describe the anxiety and stress that staying in a hotel causes me.  I've started to itch just thinking about it.  Seriously, you have no idea, but by the end of this post you will!

So I started packing last night, I chose this bag and throw. I got this set a few years back from my mother as a birthday gift, its from the faux fur line by Dennis Basso on QVC.  Check out his newest collection featuring Naomi Campbell.  I hope to own one of his furs when I grow up!

This bag will contain items that will hopefully make our suite a lil more bearable.

I started by placing the throw in the bottom of the bag and then my sheet, blanket and pillow, followed by a set of towels. When I stay at a hotel, I strip the comforter and pillows from the bed, inspect for bedbugs and make sure that the sheets appear to be clean, cuz if I see anything out of order, its a wrap!  Then I spray the bed with Lysol and  put  my sheets over their sheets and use my own pillow. The hotel wash cloths are used for wiping down shit, the towels are for sitting on chairs.

Next I packed my laundry bag, shower shoes, Clorox wipes, a bag of mini bottles of Clorox Cleanup, Febreze, hand soap, dish soap and few paper towels.  I also take a  room spray and a mini candle, my current fav is the island colada.  Finally I packed my Mini-Surge-Protector-Charger and a mini flashlight.

So that's one bag packed so far, I'm going to try to do this weekend trip with just two bags!  We shall see, I'll begin packing the toiletries tomorrow and the clothing on Sunday.

Don't judge me cuz most of the chicks that I travel with usually need something that I bring, without fail!

ONE EGG A DAY, IS OK...

WTF, I'm sposed do with one egg???  I just saw a news report announcing that one egg a day will not cause issues with cholesterol. Have y'all seen the size of eggs lately, even the jumbo eggs are small as hell.  I'll just save my egg allowance for my three egg omelet on the weekend.

IT'S FEBRUARY!!!

My favorite month!  I will soon be celebrating my 41st birthday and no it will not be a year long celebration like my 40th. Btw, I plan to put together photos of the celebration.

I'm finalizing my plans which will begin with dinner on February 17th and end with brunch on Sunday, February 20th.  I'm trying to find a show in Atlantic City on Saturday, Feb. 19th and I also need to decide what kind of cake I would like.  I know that I don't want Red Velvet or Strawberry Shortcake, any suggestions?
